The Wall Connector is one of a growing number of home charging solutions in an increasingly diverse electric vehicle market. A Wall Connector variant to charge Non-Tesla vehicles was also announced last year. That version costs $550 and requires a J1772 adapter to facilitate the charging process. Both can add up to 44 miles of range per hour, has an interesting power-sharing function, and has many other features. Tesla has updated the online shop’s Wall Connector page to show the new $425 price. It’s more than a 20 percent increase after the charger was discounted to $350 in December last year, $50 less than its previous usual price of $400. While no official statement explains the latest hike, it could be to compensate for the recently announced price cuts for the Model 3 and the re-introduction of the federal tax credit eligibility for Tesla’s cheaper offerings. Is The Wall Connector Still Worth Buying? Price hikes are never welcome, but there are plenty of reasons why the Tesla Wall Connector is still worth buying. To start with, the price increase isn’t too much. Yes, it’s 21 percent more expensive than in December last year. But that was a discounted rate and ultimately just around a six percent increase compared to its usual $400 price tag. It remains the best option to charge your Tesla at home. It supports power-sharing, a feature that allows up to six Tesla EVs to be charged using six Wall Connectors but on the same electric circuit. It also charges at a speed many EV owners, especially those with range anxiety, will appreciate. Despite the price hike, the Tesla Wall Connector and even the more expensive variant for non-Teslas are still among the cheapest options around when it comes to Level 2 home charging. Electrify America’s HomeStation is priced at $649 and comes with Wi-Fi connectivity to control charging using the service’s app. Another option is ChargePoint’s HomeFlex charger, which can add up to 37 miles of range every hour. It sells for $749, supports Amazon’s Alexa, and comes with tax rebates, and more perks. Tesla also helps make the installation process quicker with an online tool that makes it easy to find a qualified electrician. Of course, you will get a somewhat similar experience with Electrify America and HomeFlex, which recommend Qmerit for locating technicians. The Wall Connector’s price might have increased slightly, but if it is still the best home charging solution for Tesla EV owners.
