Meanwhile, Display Supply Chain Consultants CEO and Apple supply chain insider Ross Young believes it will come in April. Multiple tipsters have also reported about an updated 13-inch MacBook Air that is expected to replace the current model.
According to 9to5Mac, unnamed “independent sources” have confirmed that Apple’s upcoming 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Airs will be powered by the M3 chip. The source further claimed that both devices will only get the base M3, and not a more powerful version of it, like the M3 Pro, for instance.
The M3 is expected to come with an 8-core CPU like the M1 and M2, so it isn’t immediately clear how it will differ from those two chips. The report further claims that while the 13-inch model is codenamed J513, the 15-inch variant is codenamed J515.
New MacBooks Expected To Debut This Spring
The 13-inch MacBook Air is expected to be a refreshed version of last year’s model that is powered by an upgraded M2 processor. It also has a redesigned chassis that ditched the tapering ‘wedge’ design in favor of a rectangular profile with a constant thickness from the front to back.
It also received a slightly larger 13.6-inch screen as opposed to the 13.3-inch panel on its predecessor, and includes MagSafe 3 wireless charging. If the same design features are retained for this year’s model, it will only differ from its predecessor in terms of its hardware, while looking fairly similar on the outside.
As for the 15.5-inch model, it is expected to be a new addition to Apple’s MacBook portfolio, and should feature a MagSafe 3 connector for wireless charging to bring feature parity with the 13-inch model.
Young had earlier claimed that the device has already entered production and is expected to launch in early April. While that could still happen, some online speculations suggest that the new MacBooks could also launch at the WWDC 2023 in June.
