The confirmation of the Nothing Phone (2)’s U.S. launch comes from the company’s founder, Carl Pei, in an interview with Inverse. The Nothing Phone (2)’s arrival is scheduled for late 2023, and from Pei’s comments in the interview, it appears the phone will cost more than the Nothing Phone (1). The former OnePlus co-founder describes the Phone (2) as “a smartphone that is more premium than the Nothing Phone (1)”. The Phone (1) didn’t feature flagship specs, so the Phone (2) might finally be on par with devices like the Pixel 7 and OnePlus 11.
Nothing Phone (2) Will Have Improved Software
According to Pei, Nothing’s decision to not launch the Phone (1) in the United States stemmed from limited resources, specifically the number of employees it had. Now, the Nothing team is bigger, growing from about 200 employees in 2021 to 400 in 2023, allowing the company to take on more ambitious plans. Nothing was also able to increase its revenue exponentially from $24 million in its first year to over $200 million in 2022. The recorded growth has provided the company with resources to expand its reach to more regions, particularly the United States. Pei also revealed that Nothing has more leverage with component suppliers and production factories now.
In addition, Nothing wants to open up more physical stores. The brand’s first offline store was inaugurated in London in 2022, and it is considering opening one in the U.S. in the future. However, it is also trying not to be overambitious, which makes sense considering it is still a pretty young brand. Either way, there’s a lot for Nothing fans to be excited about in 2023, particularly those in the United States.
