Sony’s new neckband-style wireless headphones literally ‘float’ in front of users’ ears, making them ideal for high-intensity activities like running.

The Sony Float Run Off-ear wireless headphones feature a neck-band style, but what makes them special is that the speaker doesn’t go into the ears. Instead, they ‘float’ right in front of the ears. Sony says the advantage this design offers is that it eliminates pressure or stuffiness a user would usually experience if the wireless earphones sat inside the ear, like most headphones and earbuds.
There’s No ANC Or Transparency Mode
The Float Run Off-ear headphones use 16mm drivers with precise tuning for a more natural sound. Since these headphones are designed for athletes, it is not unexpected that they have an IPX4 rating for sweat and splash resistance. The headphones have physical buttons integrated into one of the side hooks for changing volume levels, controlling playback, and turning them on and off. As a result of the design, it is not surprising that the headphones lack features such as active noise cancelation or transparency mode.
The Sony headphones have Bluetooth 5.0 and support SBC and AAC audio formats. They offer a battery life of up to 10 hours on a single charge. There’s a USB-C port for charging, and a quick 10-minute charge will result in an hour of playback. A USB-C cable is included in the box alongside a carrying bag. Sony will begin selling the Float Run Off-ear Wireless Headphones in February for $129.99, and they will be available in a single Black color.
