This One Change Makes It Much Easier to Find Recently Saved Photos on My iPhone

The upcoming iOS 26 operating system will bring many new features to your iPhone in the fall, including a transparent glass design on menus and icons and redesigned interfaces for the Camera and Photos apps, Apple announced at its Worldwide Developers Conference on June 9. To make it easier to locate recently stored images, regardless of when they were shot, Apple made a minor update to images when it introduced iOS 18 in September. I’ve saved a ton of time looking for images thanks to the adjustment that arranges your photos by when they were uploaded to images rather than when they were shot.

Previously, when I saved a photo that someone emailed me, it was automatically arranged with all of my other images in chronological order, according to the time the shot was taken. I would thus lose the picture in a sea of other pictures from the previous year if I preserved a family member’s summertime snapshot.

Sometimes I would give up trying to locate it after scrolling through hundreds of images and movies. However, Photos has a Sort by Recently Added setting that allows you to arrange your photos according to the date they were saved to your device rather than the date they were taken.

To ensure you never lose a photograph again, follow these steps to arrange your images according to when they were saved to images.

How to arrange your pictures in the Apple

1. Unlock images.
2. To have the grid fill your whole screen, scroll up into your photographs.
3. In the lower-left corner of your screen, tap the up and down arrows.
4. Select Sort by Newly Added.

After selecting that choice, your images could move to reflect the new setting. Even if it was from your wedding years ago, your most recent saved or taken picture will now be at the bottom of the grid.
