Fresh details about the new iMac have surfaced courtesy of Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman. Revealed in the latest edition of his weekly newsletter, Gurman says the new iMac is one of four new Macs that are expected to launch this year. The new iMac is said to be at the engineering validation testing stage which is an advanced stage of development. However, its launch is still months away. The earliest time it is expected to arrive is in the second half of the year.

Alongside a timeframe for its arrival, there are also some key details about the new iMac. For starters, it will be available in a single size — 24 inches — and seven colors, the same ones as the current iMac. It won’t be completely identical to the M1 iMac as the manufacturing process for attaching the stand will be different. There will also be a redesign and rearrangement of the internal components. This may make it easier to repair like the iPhone 14.

The biggest change will be the Apple chip inside. Although it hasn’t been confirmed yet, the development of the iMac is said to be on the same timeline as the development of the Apple M3 chip, so there is a high chance it may be one of the first Macs powered by the M3 chipset. The M3 chip may launch in June at WWDC 2023 alongside new MacBook models before appearing in the iMac later in the year. Furthermore, it appears there will be two main variants of the upcoming iMac as one is codenamed “J433” while the other is “J434.”
