Thankfully, there’s no confusion about 5G connectivity with the OnePlus 11, as it is compatible with the 5G networks of all three carriers. That is good news for users, as stable and fast mid-band 5G is becoming more widely available across the country. It means the OnePlus 11 will work on the 5G networks of T-Mobile, Verizon, and AT&T right out of the box, and buyers won’t have to wait for a software update to unlock 5G connectivity on any of the networks.
Sub-6GHz Vs. mmWave 5G Connectivity
While the OnePlus 11 supports multiple 5G bands in the U.S. market, it is not all good news for users. The device does not support mmWave 5G, as 5G connectivity on the OnePlus 11 is only restricted to mid-band networks. This means users won’t be able to take advantage of the fastest 5G speeds on the latest OnePlus flagship, although that’s unlikely to diminish the experience for most users. That’s because most 5G networks in the U.S.
Are built on sub-6GHz frequencies, while mmWave networks are still few and far between.Leaving out mmWave 5G connectivity on the OnePlus 11 was very likely a cost-cutting measure that allowed the company to price the device competitively. Most mid-range smartphones, like the iPhone SE 3 and the unlocked Pixel 6a, do not support mmWave networks either, but it doesn’t necessarily affect everyday usage negatively. Still, with competing devices like the Pixel 7, iPhone 14, and Galaxy S23 all offering mmWave connectivity, it is one area where the OnePlus 11 falls behind when compared to its rivals.
