Genesis has established itself as a player in the premium segment and is extending its reputation to the electric scene. The GV70 EV makes history as the first vehicle from the automaker to be built in America at the Montgomery, Alabama facility. Unlike the GV60, that’s based on the E-GMP platform, Genesis will assemble the GV70 EV using the gasoline variant’s design architecture. According to a press statement, the electric SUV will start at $65,850 for the Advanced AWD trim and $72,650 for the Prestige AWD trim. Since it’ll be assembled in the U.S., the SUV may also qualify for a tax credit. Like its predecessors, the all-electric GV70 will be sold in select states and will be available in “extremely limited quantities.”
What To Expect From The GV70 Electrified
With these components, drivers should get around 429 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque. An available Boost Mode extends the power out by 54 hp but only for 10 seconds. The SUV is expected to offer an EPA-estimated driving range of 236 miles, complemented with DC Ultra-Fast charging capability (up to 80% from 10% in 18 minutes). Vehicle-to-Load charging is also available, meaning the EV can power other devices for a certain period.
The combination of an all-new Genesis Crest grille and flowing impressionistic lines make the GV70 EV stand out. On the inside, offers versatile equipment like leather seating surfaces, a panoramic sunroof, compatibility with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, heated/ventilated front seats, a premium navigation system accessible through a 14.5″ HD display, an 8″ digital cluster screen, remote vehicle access through the Genesis Digital Key, and more.
For those seeking add-ons, the more expensive variant — the Prestige AWD — brings Nappa leather seating surfaces, a head-up display, active noise control, a heating function for the second-row seats, a heated steering wheel, a bigger instrument cluster (12.3″), and other premium features.
Treading the path of today’s EVs, the GV70 Electrified is rich in active driver and safety systems, including highway driving assist, smart cruise control bundled with stop & go, and semi-autonomous safety offerings like parking distance warning and a blind-spot view monitor. This EV should rival the likes of Tesla’s Model Y, BMW’s iX, and Rivian’s R1S. Although the SUV’s range isn’t spectacular, it should still attract consumers with its well-equipped interior. Genesis promises further details regarding availability sometime near the launch date.
